Eligibility: what dogs are eligible to run in HRC hunt tests?

UKC-licensed HRC hunt tests are open to all breeds listed in the UKC Gun Dog group.

Registration: does my dog have to be registered with UKC to run an HRC hunt test?

No. An eligible dog can enter an HRC hunt test without being UKC registered, but an additional fee applies per entered dog.

  • No points count towards UKC titles and recognition awards until registration requirements are met.
  • Registration must be completed within 60 days after the points were earned.

Membership: do I have to be a member of HRC to run an HRC hunt test?

No. Non-members can enter an HRC hunt test, but Seasoned, Finished and Upland entries incur an additional fee per entered dog.

Benefits such as HRC Points Club awards and HRC Foundation scholarships do not apply, because active membership is required for eligibility.

Judges: how can I become an HRC judge?

Prospective judges must have a recommendation from their home club and have owned, trained and passed a dog at the level to be judged. Requirements for approval:

  • Points pass from the level to be judged, for a dog you owned or handled within the past 10 years.
  • Hunter safety: a card or certificate showing completion of a hunter safety course.
  • Club recommendation: the club recommendation form, completed and signed by an officer of your home club.
  • Judge test: successful completion of the online judge test for the current cycle.
  • Seminar: completion of a Judges Seminar within the prior 12 months. Started judges may receive “Conditional Approval” to begin apprenticeship as long as the seminar is completed within 6 months after they begin judging.
  • Advancement: judges advancing from Started to Seasoned and from Seasoned to Finished must be approved by their Field Representative.
